Individual guitar lessons play an important role in the development of any musician and can focus on technical, musical or theoretical areas. Pupils come from every walk of life, age and musical background, a retired person wishing to fulfil lifelong dream of playing the guitar , a six year old talking their first steps into the world of the guitar or pupils wishing to prepare for specific exams.
I have over forty years of teaching experience working with children, adults, beginners or diploma/degree students. Many pupils take grade exams or diplomas either with the Trinity Guildhall, ABRSM or the London College of Music depending on their musical preferences.
Theory lessons help develop an understanding of the language of music from scales, chords, harmony and musical structure. I have successfully entered many pupils for various exam boards.
GCSE and A level support can also be provided and I have many years experience working in schools helping pupils achieve their best in this area.
Students comments:
"Thank you so much for all the advice, encouragement and inspiration you have given us this year. It has been a most memorable and rewarding experience." Students from the CT ABSM course.
"I first picked up a guitar a decade ago and with your input I consider myself to be a promising musician. Many Thanks." An A level pupil.
In an Ofsted of the Solihull Music Service the inspector wrote of my ensemble:
"Standards of attainment were very good. The teacher had high expectations of the ensemble; pupils' memory; improvisation skills and behaviour. Performance skills were also well taught".
Publications on teaching include the programme of study for the guitar students on the CT ABRSM course and the guitar edition of "Explorations". I have also made a substantial contribution to “All Together” a book on group teaching published by the ABRSM.
I have experience of delivering successful inset days to LEAs, The European String Teachers Association and the European Guitar Teachers Association.
If you are interested in lessons why not come and hear me perform on the first Friday of every month at 1.10pm in the Round Room at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery and talk to me afterwards(see events page). Admission is free and there is no need to book or enquiries regarding lessons can be made through the contact page.
